It has been raining a lot recently, have you noticed? It is more than a flipping nuisance to many people flooded out of their homes. And insurance becomes a problem. I think that any homes that are built on land where earlier maps had the words 'flood plain' should not be the responsibility of insurance companies, when they do flood. I think the local authority should meet the bills.
But, and this is an important aspect, the planning authorities that OK'ed the build should be sacked. Oh and the builders should chip in too. You see these problems occur because no-one is ever held accountable, so there is no incentive for them to care about the outcome of their actions.
Of course, some notice of extreme weather conditions would be nice and the Met Office have a now much rehearsed dramatic warning system. Realistically they can only give a day or so warning, but a little is better than none.
But the Met Office, so lamentably wrong in their longer range weather forecasting, continue to insist that we should pay great attention to their pronouncements. We should expect more of these 'extreme' weather conditions, due to global warming they say. (Which wouldn't make them 'extreme', but hey, it's about drama).
Previously, the Met Office had insisted that global warming would lead to drought and warmer winters and that made sense. When this turned out not to be what was happening in reality (and ordinary people seem to lack the Left's ability to ignore reality) they had to modify their stance. Now, any weather is due to global warming. Hot summer, well yes of course. Snowy winter, global warming. Washout summer. Naturally. Just as the Met Office predicted.
It used to be a joke that the Met Office could improve their weather forecasting if they installed windows in their building, so poor were they. But instead they extended the ridicule by insisting that they understand weather in the finest detail and are able to accurately predict its course years into the future.
Not if it is going to rain in Basingstoke on a Saturday 15 years from now, but that the entire world is going to fry. Or freeze. Definitely, our computer models say so. They didn't predict the lack of any rise since 1997 and running their models backwards to predict weather we have already had, proves them to be completely hopeless. But, nevertheless, they are right. Apparently. It is our insistence on holding on to 'reality' that is the problem.
Like Marietta Higgs, who abused parents and their children in the 80's, the Met Office are in the grip of an ideology. They are blinded to the truth because they are not looking for it, they are looking for evidence to support what they already believe, already 'know'.
One of the most damning comments made about Higgs was they the technique she employed was, at the time she was using it, completely unverified and had not been subjected to scientific rigour. We were more serious about science then. But with global warming, so desperate are the ideologues that the Royal Society has even insisted the science is settled.
This is contrary to all the tenets of science. It is never settled. Sean Carroll in his recent book, The Particle at the End of the Universe says that scientists live to challenge theories and are delighted by the unexpected. I can assure him, those in the global warming sphere aren't! Some (at the University of East Anglia) are beyond this though. They know they are lying and try to hide evidence that contradicts their assertions.
The Met Office is a bunch of over-funded, over-paid amateurs, They are amateurs because they fail to apply scientific rigour to their work. A man in control of his senses would take a broom to them and start again.

Happy New Year!
I see the Jimmy Savile business is bringing the Left and its undying support for paedophilia into the open. The Guardian have a nice, supportive piece about how children are not harmed by sex, if they volunteer. Strange, I thought children were not mature enough to make decisions like that. Perhaps, if they are, then there is a group agitating for recognition, children who, being mature enough to consider these things want their voices heard.
But no, there are only adult paedophiles and Left ideologues spouting this dangerous nonsense. Perhaps Harriet Harman could give us her views. She, on behalf of the opposition, deplored the activities of Jimmy Savile, but once defended the position that paedophilia was OK. How does she manage to hold these differing views? Maybe she has changed her mind. Or maybe Savile supporting Thatcher was his real crime, in her eyes.
Now we are used to hearing all manner of things about the Tories and why they are 'nasty' and some of these things are true. But somehow real stories of dangerous left wing activity and ideas don't seem to go anywhere. That's because most of the media is in thrall to left ideology and the Tory supporters rarely go in for witch hunts and fabricating stories. Perhaps the public should awake from their torpor and take more responsibility for what happens in a democracy. While we still have one.

Left, Right
You know, I find myself leaning towards what is known as the Right, because generally it stands for individuality, for ambition, freedom and the right to express yourself. But I am also of the right because I hate the Left. It struck me recently that not only do the left have to resort to underhand tactics and lies as no-one would follow their lead otherwise, but also that they delude themselves.
Take climate change. Ostensibly it is a scientific argument about whether the planet is warming up due to the activities of Man, but in reality it quickly became a political project of the Left to undermine the capitalist economy. A quick examination of a) the facts and b) reality confirms that the alarmists are spouting arrant nonsense and that they are doing it on purpose.
When Soviet Russia signed a pact with Nazi Germany in WW2, the Left had to do sometimes painful contortions to oppose Hitler, but still support Stalin. In fact, they had to completely ignore Soviet aggression both against its 'enemies' and its own people. The murders in the Soviet Union for the Left in the West, just didn't happen. Just as global warming stopped over a decade ago, but 'scientists' are claiming it hasn't, but refuse to offer data in support. Naturally, it is an affront to ask them.
The Left are so disingenuous that it is impossible to take them seriously, other than to watch them carefully for the harm they do. Whilst not actually a leftie, Tony Blair used a number of their techniques to hoodwink the voters. I do not think I am a seer of some sort in that I was never taken in by the slimy tove, more that I am incredulous it was not obvious to almost everyone. Obama, oozes the same insincerity, but Americans seem to be undecided, it is as if they needed to know what type of bear it was, that was going to tear them to pieces, before they could decide how to escape its attentions.
If you don't think of yourself as having a political leaning ask yourself these questions; do you have an overpowering desire to be rich, do you hate with a passion people who are already rich, do you want riches to be bestowed on you, rather than having to work for them, are you certain that you are more important than anyone you know, do you have an absolute belief that people should always do what you say? Then you are a leftie.
If you believe that people can lift themselves into a better condition through education and effort and that they should allowed to do so, if you are optimistic and are not filled with the avarice and envy listed above, then welcome to my world, you are right.

A Perfect Society?
The Greeks have often been in a mess. Their mess, which they had to deal with. It wasn't great, but it was up to them to change it. They could seek help, but then they could accept or reject what was offered. Now they are in the EU, Greece to all intents and purposes doesn't exist any more and they must do what they are told.
The Greek PM dithered and was replaced by a technocratic coalition. The Italians, so long unable to get rid of Silvio have now watched as he is disposed of on the orders of the EU. His replacement wasn't even eligible, but suited the EU elites (having been one).
All of this, as Janet Daley so succinctly put it in her Sunday Telegraph column yesterday, is due to the continuing pursuit of left ideology, of a perfect system of government. Think of the supposed 'order' the French revolution was to bring to the system of government and society. But it just killed people in reality. The EU technocrats believe that they too have devised a perfect system, but people have to do what they are told for it to work.
Not a democratic society then. Rather, one run by benevolent elites and I'm sure Stalin saw himself in the same way. In Britain, Magna Carta and the Bill of Rights are ancient protections that evolved due to the pressures of reality and as sensible reactions to those pressures. They are bottom up, practical solutions, from within society. It is why Britain has, on the whole had a functioning society without revolutions. That it has slipped more recently is entirely due to the rise of the left in the institutions, by which they corrupt society and from our slavish acceptance of rule from the Continent.
These failed systems of government never go away, because they are so beguiling for the elites that promote them. But they are nothing more than Utopian dreams that don't even get past the first muster. As soon as any structure exists, the elites start dipping their hand into the treasury and thinking up ever more rules to support their own comfort.
The placards, so popular at demonstrations these days, 'not in my name', naively believe that they live in a society where anyone is listening to their opinion. I also read at the weekend that it is ridiculous to claim that the Germans are trying to conquer Europe again. Nigel Lawson used the logic that why, if their intention was to takeover Europe, would the Germans destroy themselves with the economic mess that we have now?
Which kind of answers itself. As the Germans did institute the economic structure that is now (and so predictably) falling apart, then yes, the idea is wholly credible. It would be like saying that because Hitler really, really didn't want a war with Britain and really did believe that he could expand Germany, without a world war ensuing, meant that he never had any empire building intentions. We misread his invasion of Poland.
The EU is not just broken, it is not just dragging us all down by its insistence that we maintain the house built on sand, it is actively dangerous. We must see it destroyed. We must act. By so doing we will save the peoples of Europe and then they can be left to determine their own future. We need a European spring, we need to see the resurgence of democracy here.

Roosting Pigeons At The BBC
Oh dear, how the nonsense of Left politics is coming unstuck. For those who pay attention things such as the left liberal support for homosexuals and homosexual hating Muslims, against Christianity was clear evidence of faulty thinking. Left liberals have a mechanism in their brains for blanking out inconvenient truths.
Now however, the stupidity of the views of the left liberals are in the full glare of publicity, being tested and seen to fail everywhere. The BBC love the EU. It is socialistic, big government oriented and based on high taxation so fits their ideals. They hate all things Christian and once famously had a spat over the wearing of poppies, being a respectful display, but the BBC is an institution that demands, but doesn't give.
Now we have the BBC trying desperately to 'report' the problems with the Euro without ever mentioning that the only way for the countries struggling to survive, is outside the beloved construct. That the whole EU project doesn't work and the worldwide pain the Euro is causing is 'worth it'.
They are also having to appear to support poppies as it is a cause celebre in light of world football wishing to ban the symbol from its tournaments. Yes, sticking your hand in a fire is a bad idea, unless your ideology tells you to do it, in which case it will be fine!

How Ideology Destroys
Ideology is the dangerous moment someone decides that their idea is correct, in every way, perfect. There is no shifting them and yet it is still only an idea. A way of thinking or of doing things. For instance, ideology told Gordon Brown that he should sell much of the UK's gold reserve. Gold was he said, old hat. This notion that wealth runs to gold in times of crisis was an ancient and out of date concept.
Not only had Brown ended the boom and bust cycle, his ideology told him, thus making crises a thing of the past, but also economic theories such as he cleaved to, proved that currency not gold provided stability. So, after announcing the sale in advance, thus driving down the price of gold, Brown achieved a remarkably small price for a large slice of the nation's treasure. With the proceeds he bought bits of paper, mainly Euro's. Brown had passed 'Go'.
It is of course difficult to think of a single thing on which Brown was correct, but allied to his own limited abilities was the fact that he based everything around a misguided ideology. Reality had to fit around what he thought should happen. Which is why gold stands at $1,777 an ounce and the Eurozone looks like a game of Monopoly and Brown says nothing in public, just sitting at home in a chair, I should imagine, rocking back and forth saying 'I'm right you know, I'm right'.
In 1847 Ignaz Semmelweiss told surgeons in Vienna that they should wash their hands before treating patients. They were outraged. This had never been forced on them before and they could see no reason to do it now. While the experiment lasted though, mortality rates dropped like a stone. But they still got rid of the upstart. Ideology rules.
For people who would have been hippies in the 1960's, the idea that humans are destroying the planet is a powerful and beautiful idea (most forcefully displayed in all its stupid inelegance, in the monster waste of time and effort that is the film Avatar). It didn't matter if it was true or not, it fitted want they wanted to believe, their prejudices. It was an ideology. The irony is though, that they think humans can solve the planet's ills. Some even believe that we should use our technology to actually change the world's weather, to counter the affects their ideology (and nothing much else) tells them we are causing.
Ideology has the (usually quite well off, Western) hero wistfully observing, maybe from a train whilst enjoying a slice of Black Forest gateau, a peasant in a paddy field, bent over pushing rice plants into the ground, ankle deep in muddy water. Here, our sated saint feels, is the 'noble peasant' asking for nothing more than a small plot on which to grow a meagre supply of rice to feed his family. He has honour in the way his toil provides for his family.
The peasant of course, glances up as the train clatters by and answers 'piss off you bastard, this is back breaking work that barely keeps us alive. I want what you have'.
