With a prolonged hot, dry spell visiting the UK recently the focus has been on Global Warming. There have been no records broken, it hasn't been as unendingly hot as 1976 and this one (as most are here), was caused by the Jetstream being pushed North by unusually cold water in the North West Atlantic.
Nothing to do with Global Warming, which isn't a thing with no temperature rise for over 20 years and certainly no identified mechanism at work, caused by Man (such as CO2).
What should be the focus is the water supply. Now, with a wet early start to the year the supplies were at a high level, but nothing lasts forever. But more damaging is the fact that, despite the massive influx of people to the UK since the moron Tony Blair allowed unrestricted immigration, no new capacity exists.
Yes, that's right, no new reservoirs to meet the additional needs. Mad eh? Well the reason is even more insane. Following an EU directive we must have less water supply than is needed by design. This is to make us use less water, which we must do due to Global Warming (which as stated earlier doesn't exist).
So, you may be familiar with the population increase, in the late Eighties it was 56,953,861 and is now 65,511,097 but when was the last reservoir built? 1989, that's when. In Devon. Unbelievably, no added capacity from before unlimited immigration began.
And then there are the legendary scale water leaks, which the water companies really cannot be bothered to fix despite legal obligations and targets. This is because our politicians, currently scrabbling to keep all the real work of governing in Brussels, are weak and believe in fairies, which is what Global Warming is.
Politics, current affairs and ideas as they drift through my head. UK based personal opinion designed to feed or seed debate.

Water, Water Everywhere
As the rain continues to lash the country, some areas resolutely hold on to a hosepipe ban. It feels stupid, but actually you can understand a long term shortage isn't solved by a lot of rain in a short period. But we have had a lot for a month plus, so what is going on?
Turns out that the government have been merrily rejecting applications for new reservoirs on the basis that there is 'no need'. Marry those two things up then; drought because we have had reduced rainfall over winter and no need for extra water storage capacity. The population has expanded (grown is wrong I think, when most arrived on a jet plane) and that alone would have increased usage.
The government however, are playing a virtual reality game. In their world there be dragons and every resource, every decision has to be made with the overriding aim of combating global warming. Proper scientists, using a knowledge of earth's cyclical history and the sun's activity, think it most likely that we are about to enter a period of cooling, maybe even a mini ice age. For this real threat, I think the government have made zero preparation.
The threat they invented in their heads, global warming was further blamed on Man's activity, meaning we could 'do' something about it. Strangely, this required the destruction of democratic government, Western civilisation and the capitalist system that has created so much wealth and well being. Once we had purged ourselves in this way some god would forgive our sins and global warming would be averted.
In so far as there was some warming, it is clear that, once again it was due to the Sun's activity. We are mere spectators. If you are a Stalinist, this doesn't help you scare the world into allowing you to take control.
Needless to say the anti-citizen policies of the government in the main came from the unelected government in Brussels. We should not be allowed to have enough water capacity for the number of people needing access. We should instead conserve this 'dwindling' resource, a thought process that even the old saying about the water you drink having been drunk many times before, slays.
So once again it is not just the government, but the EU that has caused a fundamental problem in the good ordering of a country and its vital infrastructure.

Drought?
The hosepipe ban comes into force today across several regions of the UK. Serious looking spokesmen appear on TV to warn 'customers' that the shortage is serious and large fines will result if they ignore the diktat.
Of course, no mention is made of the 300 million gallons of water they lose every day, because they cannot be bothered to meet their statutory duty to repair pipes. For them, the derisory fines of the water 'regulator' are just an operating cost, certainly much, much less than sorting out the leaks.
Imagine the damage to the funds available for executive bonuses if they were spending the money required to meet their legal commitment! Connect the dots. Police regularly set up speed traps where the average 'overspeed' is probably 3mph and the fine is instant. They have the power to seize cars instantly and crush them for repeat offences, even where the penalty is massively out of proportion to the 'crime'.
Yet when it comes to big companies, the law suddenly becomes very careful and tentative. Water bosses have a legal duty to limit leaks. If they ignore it, it doesn't really matter. The fines, even when they do come are insignificant and out of proportion in the wrong direction. Politicians who break the law are given every courtesy and excuses sought, details that would be irrelevant if it were you or I assume great significance.
Social workers abuse their powers seizing children and breaking up families. And yet there is so often nothing done and nothing we can do to force action. Yes, it is proof positive that a corrupt state will not allow any intervention with its affairs. So it will get worse and worse, just as a child pushes to discover where the boundaries are.
Our destruction is not confirmed yet, but a clear path has been set and our politicians and their fellow travellers (such as bankers with Gordon Brown, charlatans with Tony Blair, anyone with money it seems, with Cameron) are already on it.
